Our Halifax cage diving expeditions are at the core of Atlantic Shark Expeditions, offering guests the chance to experience the only shark cage diving operation in Canada. Running from early July through the middle of August, these trips bring you onto the water with our crew at the height of this location’s shark season.
You will most likely encounter Blue sharks, with Mako and Porbeagle sharks also frequently observed around the cage. Each expedition offers guests the chance to see these animals up close while learning more about their behavior, ecology, and the research that helps protect them.
Enjoy the sharks from the deck above water or take the plunge in our custom-built cage designed with guest safety as the top priority. Scuba certification is not required, air is supplied from the surface through secure hookah lines, allowing divers to focus fully on the experience.
These expeditions combine the excitement of shark encounters with the opportunity to contribute to ongoing science, making them an unforgettable highlight of your summer.

The boat departs and returns from Sambro, a small fishing community outside downtown Halifax. While accommodation and transport to the dock in Sambro are not included, we have partnerships with several businesses that offer our guests special discounted rates on accommodations and local transportation. Every day offers a unique adventure. Booking multiple days increases your chances of seeing various shark species, observing unique behaviors, and enjoying optimal weather conditions. We offer 10%, 12%, and 15% discounts off entire bookings of 3, 4, and 5 days, respectively. Discounts will be automatically applied at checkout when you book 3, 4, and 5 different expeditions; expeditions don’t have to be consecutive dates or times to take advantage of this multi-day discount.

No. In fact, some of the best shark viewing is above water, watching these amazing animals cruise by the boat.
No. Experiencing the sharks underwater from the safety of the cage does not require scuba diving or scuba certification. Cage divers are supplied with surface air via a hosed hookah system.
