After a terrific first season, our Yarmouth Great White Shark Expedition returns for a second year, and we couldn’t be more excited. During our season last year, some trips saw more than a dozen Great White sharks on a single day circling the cage including individuals previously tagged by our founding marine biologist Dr. Neil Hammerschlag.
These expeditions focus on one of the ocean’s most iconic apex predators: the Great White shark. Each trip contributes to this long-term research program, expanding knowledge about migration patterns, population dynamics, and the critical role these sharks play in Atlantic Canada’s ecosystem.
Enjoy the sharks from the deck above water or take the plunge in our custom-built cage designed with guest safety as the top priority. Scuba certification is not required, air is supplied from the surface through secure hookah lines, allowing divers to focus fully on the experience.
With encounters ranging from curious juveniles to massive adults, this expedition offers not only awe-inspiring cage dives but also the rare opportunity to directly support groundbreaking science on one of the world’s most fascinating species.
Minimum Age: 10 (Participants under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian over 19 years old).
The boat departs and returns from Lower West Pubnico, a small fishing community at the southern tip of Nova Scotia. While accommodation and transport to the dock in West Pubnico are not included, we have partnerships with several businesses that offer our guests special discounted rates on car rentals and accommodations. Every day offers a unique adventure. Booking multiple days increases your chances of seeing different shark, observing unique behaviors, and enjoying optimal weather conditions. We offer 10%, 12%, and 15% discounts off entire bookings of 3, 4, and 5 days, respectively. Discounts will be automatically applied at checkout when you book 3, 4, and 5 different expeditions; expeditions don’t have to be consecutive dates or times to take advantage of this multi-day discount.
Atlantic Shark Expeditions is authorized to conduct scientific research with Great White Sharks via a permit by the Canadian Government under the Species at Risk Act. Through this research, ecotourists have the privilege of joining researchers on boat-based expeditions to search for sharks, view sharks from the boat and/or underwater from the cage, learn from the research team, and observe scientific activities. No. In fact, some of the best shark viewing is above water, watching these amazing animals cruise by the boat.
No. Experiencing the sharks underwater from the safety of the cage does not require scuba diving or scuba certification. Cage divers are supplied with surface air via a hosed hookah system.
